As Francesco Marciuliano writes Sally Forth with 2000-era sitcom rhythms, Craig Macintosh's art has remained stuck in the eighties. Thus we Sally Forth make quick-witted contemporary pop-culture references while wearing shoulder-padded power suits. Sally Forth has become one of the most bizarre things on the comics page.
Hm, a lot of people have been dissing Sally Forth, but really it's not a bad strip, or even average. It's been around a while now, and it's still pretty good. It's not Mutts, sure, but it's generally okay.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I think that visual disconnect is part of what makes Sally Forth worth reading. Ces' scripting is fairly good, self-ironic and generally wry (not to mention occasionally meta). The old-fashioned art gives it a unique quality. Like seeing the Peanuts talking like they were from the Boondocks or something.
