Double shut out

So I just might be shut-out for two days straight. This is unprecedented for the watch.

Today's Betty shows how to create awkward silence without using an SPP.

The blank spot over Betty's head in the second panel creates the comic beat.

Yes, and Mark Trail just gets awesomer.

Nope -- you missed Sherman's Lagoon. Always a reliable source of SPPs.

"Monty" came pretty close yesterday too, but there was definitely a useless SPP tacked on to "Stone Soup"

Nice catch, gloriouskyle. I think Stone Soup definitely qualifies, even if Jan Eliot did try to squeeze it in with that 1/3-size gutter.

Monty's Silent Antepenultimate Panel (SAPP?) wasn't a "true" SAPP, in my opinion. It showed some action -- i.e., looking -- and wasn't a clumsy attempt to game the comedic rhythm. Funny strip, too! (Not that funniness alone is an excuse for an SPP -- but it helps.)
