Purple rectangles

Get Fuzzy by Darby Conley
Mutts by Patrick McDonnell
Mutts again. Out of nowhere it's become the new Boondocks of SPPs.
Want to draw a comic strip that takes place at a driving range but have no idea how to draw one? Try the Cathy solution:

Have your character stand inside a purple rectangle, and the gag makes perfect sense.

The only thing I can think is that he's mini-golfing. (something was said about artificial grass). The rectangle is the opening to the little club and ball rental kiosk and he's stuck his head and torso into it (and into the personal space of some teenage employee) to have his conversation.

Cathy's been doing this strip forever now. I'd say she's got the right get lazy once in a while.
